Explore Therapy

I'm Sara, an integrative counsellor offering counselling to adults aged 18+ in person in Berkhamsted and nationwide online. I offer a space where you can come as you are and we can look together at whatever brings you here, whether that is a specific issue, or you just need a time and space to explore what is going on for you. Welcoming you as a unique individual is key to the way I work and I hope by looking through my website, you'll get a feel for what I can offer. Thank you for visiting, you are very welcome here.

How I Work

I work within an integrative framework, put simply that means that I draw on a variety of theories, tools and ideas in my work as a counsellor, so that I can best meet your needs and provide you with the therapy that works for you as an individual. This will include drawing on psychodynamic theories, CBT, person-centred approach and transactional analysis, alongside use of creativity if that is something you like.My clients come to me for a wide variety of reasons, including stress, anxiety, depression, past or current trauma, low self-esteem, relationship struggles and abuse. I have both personal and professional experience of neurodivergence, so whether you are exploring this or already have a diagnosis, I can adapt my approach to suit your needs. My work is always trauma-informed, meaning that we will go at a pace which feels safe for you, to untangle your past experiences and find a way forward which puts you at the centre.

About Me

I believe the counselling relationship should be collaborative rather than hierarchical, and I strive to reflect this in my work. Our relationship is central to the work, allowing us to explore times you have felt stuck or hurt, uncover behaviour patterns, and support you in moving forward as the person you want and deserve to be.I was diagnosed as neurodivergent in my 30's and have much personal and professional experience in this area. Whether you yourself are neurodivergent, or exploring this, or someone else in your life is, I can help you to navigate this. I also have a background in teaching, so can empathise deeply with the unique challenges of this profession. Likewise, if you have children who struggle with mainstream education, I can bring my experience of this from both sides.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Counselling?
Counselling is talking therapy in which I create a confidential, collaborative space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. It’s about being supported to better understand yourself and find ways forward at your own pace. Some people call it therapy and that is fine too - it's just different names for the same thing.

How do I start?
I offer a free 15-20 minutes video call so that we can get to know each other and see whether I might be a good fit for you. If you decide to go ahead, we will agree on a time slot, which will be your regular session time. We will regularly review the work, which can be short or long-term.

How much do sessions cost?
Sessions cost £60 and last for 50 minutes. I offer a limited number of concessionary slots for counselling trainees, please enquire for details.

How often are sessions held?
Sessions will initially be held weekly, so that we can get to know each other and establish goals for our work together. After an initial period of 6-8 sessions, if you wish to move to fortnightly sessions, this can be discussed.

What about qualifications and insurance?
I am fully qualified and accredited with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS: NCS24-04113). I am registered with the ICO, DBS checked and fully insured. When we agree to work together I will send you copies of my privacy policy and a full working agreement.
My qualifications:
Currently ongoing - CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
June 2025 - CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling
June 2023 - CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
